Panthers fortunate Newton-Norman scuffle didn’t change season

On Sunday, the Carolina Panthers bulldozed over the Arizona Cardinals as Cam Newton tossed two touchdowns and ran for two more scores in a 49-15 beat down for the NFC championship.

Newton finished the contest with 335 yards through the air and finished the game with an 117.4 passer rating, he also finished the game with 47 yards on the ground and is looking more and more like a lock to be the league’s MVP.

However, the season could have gone in an entirely different direction.

Remember this scuffle back on Aug. 10 between Newton and Josh Norman?

Yes, no injuries occurred, however, what if something would have happened to Newton in this quarrel?

Remember: This happened on the same day that news broke that Geno Smith had suffered a broken jaw after being punched by teammate IK Enemkpali, which drastically altered the Jets’ season as Ryan Fitzpatrick took over at quarterback.

At the time, the Panthers seemed like they were not worried about Newton’s health as his teammates shrugged off the possibility.

But still, there was a possibility. In the Jets case the quarterback injury may have even resulted in an upgrade, but that certainly wouldn’t be true for Carolina.

If Newton was injured in this fight, the Panthers season more than likely would’ve taken a turn for the worse. If Derek Anderson, who has a career passer rating of 71.4, would have been called upon to lead this squad, there is no chance that the Panthers would have finished the season 15-1, let alone reach the Super Bowl.

That said, don’t underestimate the impact Norman has had as well. This season he was accountable for seven takeaways with four interceptions and two forced fumbles. He also had 18 pass deflections and found the end zone twice. If he were to have been injured in the fight, the Panthers defense would have lost a difference maker.

Panther fans should count their blessings that this scuffle did not ruin their special season, because the absence of Newton would have crippled their chances of making this championship run. Furthermore, Newton should consider himself lucky as well, since he might just find himself both a Super Bowl champion and MVP before the season is said and done.

The NFL Media has a need to strike down any pro Black presence in this nation. The Charlotte Observer is one of the more bigot establishments on the planet. They love to exercise their license to slander in the name of journalism. Good ole boy politics at their highest from. The Carolina Panthers are a product of today’s society and the way of the Observer is nearly dead and gone away. Welcome to 2016!
